About 140 miles. Trip took a little over 3 hours, with an average speed of under 50mph. Tolls were under $10. I returned home via the Cross Sound Ferry. Actual driving time was 2 hours. Total trip took 3 hours 35 minutes. Ferry trip was 1 hour 20 minutes, plus a 15 minute boarding time window. Cost was $59 for one car with driver.
Cross Sound Ferry's staff are meticulous and professional. They make it easy for passengers to be comfortable and safe. Schedules are convenient and priority boarding is well worth the additional small fee. All parts of the ferry including bathrooms are clearly maintained at a high standard. One more plus, their chocolate chip cookies are fabulous!
Taken cross sound's ferry over to block island from New London many times but without car. Always a great experience. Therefore this was new experience for us to bring the car over to long island. Awesome decision! Ride was smooth and really a nice boat ride. Had some breakfast on board and were ready to go exploring on long island.
