It is very easy to drive back to baggage claim and pick up the other person with the bags. There is a sidewalk to the left of the parking lot.
Enthusiastic seconding of Discount Hawaii Car Rental; good prices and outstanding dispute resolution assistance. Have used Alamo on Oahu, Maui and Big Island with FAR from satisfactory results. Haven't tried them on Kauai, but there was a thread I bookmarked with a lot of info: will bump/look for 'Alamo on Kauai. Is it like Maui?' by in2food.

We rented from Hertz through Autoslash last month and it was a breeze (and saved us almost 50% over the next cheapest option). We picked up our checked bags, got the shuttle, walked right up to the counter and were in our car in minutes.

Answer 11 of 29: How bad or good is the experience renting from Alamo at Lihue airport on Kauai? I know Alamo consistently has the best rates for all their cars but I had a horrible experience with them on Maui.
