I have exchanged currency already but thought I would send a VISA pre-paid--gift card with him in case he need more money. He does NOT have a reg credit card--only Japanese currency.

2. Re: Using giftcards. Hi msgelfin, Yes you can buy a visa gift card from a financial institution in U.S. and it can be used in Turkey at those retailers that accept "Visa Debit Cards". For example Migros stores accept debit cards in Turkey. Just make sure that your gift card is good for international transactions and is not valid only in US.
Also not a good idea to use them at a food service venue. Most of those places 'authorize' an amount including tip, which can cause a smaller gift card ($25 etc) to be denied. I always use them for a defined amount (again somewhere like Walmart) & tell the cashier in advance how much to run the card for. Then pay rest with cash or credit.
