   15 years ago. If I'm not mistaken, the free 2nd driver depends on what rental company you use. But the Costco discount works only when renting through Costco website, using a their code, or so I thought. I could be wrong. I thought that if you used Priceline, you paid for it, no chance on declining your winning bid.

For a recent Las Vegas trip I bid on a car for a week and did get a good rate ($50 cheaper than using Dollar) which must be paid in advance and is non-cancellable no matter what.

However time pressures sometimes means it’s easier to see the sort of prices on offer on an aggregator site rather than traveling through each supplier individually. I’ve learned a lesson though.    Although, the last couple years, I've ended up getting pretty good rates directly with the rental car websites. Last year was Dollar.com and this year for March is Thrifty.com $208 for a full-size for a week, including taxes and fees. That included the Nascar weekend, so thought it was a decent rate.
