   Steady is on the money, do it yourself on a site like booking.com, you get photos of the Hotel, guest feed back (some might be fake, but a lot is legitimate) and booking.com has a map where you see where the Hotel is in relation to Beaches, City Centre, etc, and see prices of comparative Hotels in the area.

   TN007 was seeking clarificaiton in their first post, as most on TA don't use a travel agent, the majority of companies on TA are tour specific and not a travel agent. I know that most of the regulars on TA don't use a travel agent, we actually enjoy the research of finding things out. I think what you need a tour agent rather than a travel agent.

   Reviewed March 13, 2009. We've just come back from a month in Malaysia & overall it was a great trip. However , in both Borneo & peninsular Malaysia we ran into some difficulty with local travel agents. My wife and I have travelled extensively in the last 20 years & have used local agents many times with few problems.
