1. Re: Best surfing spot for a beginner. Do not go to the Inlet, as it's competitive and crowded. There is no surfing permitted from Esther Street to 3rd Avenue, and in front of 27th Avenue during the summer season. Anywhere else should be fine, as this time of year the surf is normally calm (normally).

The info I learned gave me confidence to travel during rush hour Monday morning on my own from LGA to my hotel in lower Manhattan. From there the rest of my subway experiences only got better. I also found this guide a lot more user friendly than the official MTA site for introducing me to the NY subway system. Much appreciated!
