I googled the expedia customer support centre contact (UK) and got a number which I called, as there was a queue the bot offered to call me back, which they did, I had to wait but got through to very helpful guy who put me through to the refund sections and after half an hour they had the details and confirmed we would get a full refund.

This looks very much like a standard catch-all message which is sent out whenever there is any kind of problem with a card payment, and it covers all eventualities. If the card had declined then, as mentioned, no money would have left the OP's account.
If so then call your card issuer and dispute the charge. Make sure you dispute the right charge, the one for the ticket you haven't got. If you didn't use a credit card (and the words about "bank account" don't look promising) then get one sharpish.
4. Re: Refund due to health issues (Expedia/United) If the ticket is non refundable, you will not get any money back, even because of illness. This is where travel insurance comes into play,you need to contact your insurance provider.
Sounds like you need a new credit card company too. If the charge is fraudulent or a mistake- why is your card company having such an issue with this?
Expedia never notified us of that. As such we had to book a new flight on a different airline at a much higher price. I have made 7 calls to Expedia talked to 7 customer service agents and 4 supervisors. I have been disconnected 3 times after waiting on line for up to 40 minutes. ON May 21, I was promised an answer within 24-48 hours.
