Re: How is Cell Phone Reception? 9 years ago. AT&T coverage is unreliable. Verizon is much better. I was part of a large group that traveled Mid-Coast last week and those of us with AT&T had lots of problems, especially in Boothbay and Acadia. Text messaging, especially, was hit or miss, so we'd get messages from our friends hours late.

You will find that you have spotty cell service here on the island. There are numerous "dead" spots. I find with my Verizon phone that I get great service in the Bar Harbor Village, but so so service out in Acadia. You will also get service in the other small villages on the island but not so much on the roads while you travel between them.
1. Re: Best mobile phone coverage. 4 years ago. I have Verizon and I think it works about as well as your gonna get around here. Outside of Bar Harbor, cell service is rather spotty on the island. I've heard that AT&T has the best service but I think Verizon works off their towers so I'm not sure it's worth the expense to gt a SIM card.
