    We cannot call a toll free number in the US." Not quite true - we can call 1-800 numbers from the UK, but we are charged. I do it all the time. I'm not sure about the other way round, though, as I can't remember if I've tried to dial an 0-800 from the US. At best, you'll be able to connect but will be charged; at worst, you simply can't connect.

    I purchased a Lebara SIM at Sydney airport which supposedly included a £10 credit for the UK. I also purchased an EE SIM for my iPad at the same time. This has worked brilliantly in the UK, but be warned as you move into the Irish Republic things are not so good. The Lebara SIM has given us problems ever since we have arrived in the UK.
