I book my own travel and only have gotten AAA discounts in the USA at large chain hotels. When I go to Europe I use smaller local hotels or B&Bs to get more of the local flavor.

AARP is the American Association of Retired People;they charge $15 a year. Most hotels offer a "senior rate" without AARP membership,usually 62 and over.
