It's very rare for UK citizens to have car rental insurance through a credit card - over here only a small number of American Express cards include this cover. So few people here can advise on this I know that some north American cards routinely include this cover, but you'd need to read the detailed policy wording from your card provider.

I am considering renting a car through CarRentals.com while in Ireland in March. The reason I am considering them is that they have comparable prices through ten or so rental companies and they offer a (not too expensive) insurance package through AIG Travel Guard that seems to cover all the bases (e.g.$25,000 Collision Damage Coverage. $0 Deductible.
