In May 2007, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked AMO MoisturePlus eye solution to Acanthamoeba keratitis infections. AMO announced a recall on Complete MoisturePlus contact lens solution on May 28, 2007. The solution has been linked to cases of an eye infection (keratitis) caused by an organism of the genus Acanthamoeba.
I read those articles and I don't see any reference to contact lens solution being a medical necessity. If you go to the TSA website, under 3 -1--1 rules, you can type in the liquid you are questioning, it brings up many ways to say "contact solution", pick one, click search, it brings you back to the rules on 3 - 1 -1.

i never wear contacts on long-haul flights. i sleep well on planes and as i usually give my eyes a rest and wear glasses a couple of days a week, i just make a long-haul travel day one of those days. especially since opti-free brand solution still annoyingly seems to come in only 120ml bottles (and i have checked in other countries i travel to, all the same).

I wear contacts, but never on a long haul. I couldn't wear them for 15 hours - my eyes would suffer. Years ago I was advised to get prescription sunglasses and these are what I use when travelling long haul - may look a bit stupid, but they serve a purpose.
