Liability insurance is the law - you cannot get around it. Most companies (but not all!) will extend liability insurance that covers 80% of damages.

You will be charged $25 (17.45 in Ca) for the entire rental trip, in contrast if you take the CDW of the rental company you get charged $12-$19 per day!!! its a massive difference.
