I did not receive a single email from Expedia regarding this booking, no confirmation, no itenerary, nothing. (not in my junk mail either) and my bank account did not show any money going through. I believed this booking did not go through and made other plans. Then, two weeks later I saw that the airline company charged for the flight.

It is unfortunate, but that is the risk you took. In saying that, there are cases where airlines would assist in credit shells, rebooking for a fee etc.
