A cross body travel purse screams "scared tourist" especially as you will still be clutching the strap in a death grip. Same with messenger, just a bigger version of the other. The backpack screams "American tourist" if you are over college age and zippers invite pickpockets.
Basically, I need the day bag for few euros, tissues, guidebooks, ticket print outs & poncho. I will look at the healthy back bag as you suggested.
