11 reviews. 10 helpful votes. Flying with over 3 oz of contact lens solution. 10 years ago. The TSA website says all liquids must be less than 3 oz (technically 3.4, or 100ml) unless they are medications. I cannot find anywhere on the site the definition of "medication."
I have recently switched to Clear Care, a hydrogen peroxide based contact lens solution, due to my eye care professional's recommendation. In a few months, this will be my first time traveling with it [by air]. I have been hearing stories of TSA officers confiscating such solution in carry on baggage and not being able to negotiate citing ...
I am opening this thread because so many contact solutions come in the size of 3.5 oz, while the TSA limit is 3.4 oz. The different is so tiny. Checking in my luggage is not an option because I will be traveling light. There are very few travel size solutions for gas permeable lenses on Amazon. And their prices are high, e.g, $9 for 0.33 oz.
There have been several Air Travel discussions over the years, about Clear Care (3% H2O2) solutions and particularly RGP lenses. I have never had my travel size bottle confiscated, but I do recall a security agent at LHR taking a long look at the bottle once, then allowing me onward.
