Never rented from Dollar before but from working rental for years i would suggest the following. Reserve online (usually saves a fair amount though not always), if possible, get a full list of 'luxuries', if they have one (not uncommon for lists to change often, and for lesser cars to be substituded when needed but same charge, unless you have a good manager/employee.
The other thing is since the introduction of ‘dynamic pricing’ into the rental car market over the last few years things are very volatile, like airline tickets.
