The two airlines websites often don't work well together and it wouldn't surprise me if you simply can't check in online for the flight. Your post in 7 is probably the issue. HA won't let you check in for their flight because it's the second in the itinerary. They are expecting you to check in for Jet Blue first.

I agree, Hawaiian Air does not have the best customer service, and I too have had trouble canceling or changing flights, which is now why I buy flight insurance. They do not have refundable flights in cash, only credit. I do realize you should always read the fine print, but I have never had this problem with other Airlines.
