How to avoid Nashville downtown: from I-24 exit #54 onto Briley pkwy/155. Follow this around east side of Nashville. It has 3 stoplights and then turns into 4 lane expwy. You pass over 65 north and then come to 24 west. Easy Peasy! Took us 15 minutes during morning rush hour! No stopping at all. I guess it will work going south. Just reverse.

The best way to go to avoid the 65/24/40 splits would be to catch Briley Pkwy (as another poster has noted) towards the airport.
