6 years ago. You won't find ANY car rental companies without bad reviews. People give bad reviews for a number of reason but the majority of reasons are unwarranted when it comes to the better companies. Companies to avoid will be Firefly, Maggiore, Goldcar and Locauto. These are bad companies and should be avoided at all costs.
Metro is very easy to use. Has a lot of high end shopping but not a lot of souvenier style shopping (some stands). Best food is away from the main sites. Get a map from your hotel and its easy to read to find the primary sites to see. Milan is a 3.5 hr train ride to Rome (high speed train, 6.5 hrs on a longer train).

Compare dozens of companies like Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, and National for the best priced rental car for your trip. Pick up your vehicle at any of our locations in Italy or at the airport.
There are bad reviews for every car rental company, mostly from people who did not understand the rental contract, or who did not inspect the car when picking it up. For European rental broker, the Autoeurope/Kemwel group seems to get 99% favorable reviews. I have used them multiple times without issues. Of course, I also pick major providers through them (Hertz, Europcar, Avis/Budget, etc).
I see many posts with people recommending booking rental cars using AutoEurope. Comparing prices between AutoEurope (for an Avis car) and Avis (making a direct booking) I get (for a 5 day rental, one way from Verona to Venice ): AutoEurope: $343 w/deductible or $510 without; estimated $15 one-way fee to be charged at pick-up.
