5. Re: Renting a car at St Thomas airport drive to St Johns. 1 year ago. The St Thomas Hertz website states that you Can take their cars to St John. Make sure you have a 4WD vehicle with good clearance. Also be sure to leave lots of extra time on your return to get back to St Thomas.

After checking in at the rental counter, we were told by the counter agent to step to the side and a car would be available "shortly."
