Taken cross sound's ferry over to block island from New London many times but without car. Always a great experience. Therefore this was new experience for us to bring the car over to long island. Awesome decision! Ride was smooth and really a nice boat ride. Had some breakfast on board and were ready to go exploring on long island.
No senior discount as of Sept 2020, but might be worth a call to confirm that when you are ready to book. Easy to get to New London terminal. Easy on, easy off at Orient.
About 140 miles. Trip took a little over 3 hours, with an average speed of under 50mph. Tolls were under $10. I returned home via the Cross Sound Ferry. Actual driving time was 2 hours. Total trip took 3 hours 35 minutes. Ferry trip was 1 hour 20 minutes, plus a 15 minute boarding time window. Cost was $59 for one car with driver.
