We buy bottled water, basic snacks etc. that are so pricey at the resorts. We also buy boogie boards for the kids to use during our trip. You can buy them at Walmart for $10-$20 and we have them for the whole trip.
474 helpful votes. 2. Re: Does Walmart in Kahului sell groceries and/or alcohol. 14 years ago. Yes to both, but it is not a full fledged Super Walmart. If you are going to Lahaina, you can also try Foodland in Lahaina town, Lahaina Farms, and Safeway, all of which have more extensive grocery and liquor than Walmart. Report inappropriate content.
The store is the cleanest grocery store on Maui. Walmart is close to Target and has a huge selection of frozen snack food. Sells alcohol, basic veggies, canned goods, chips, sodas coffee. Safeway is near the airport too. Full size Safeway but you have to watch that sale prices are programmed in their registers.
Maui has 24 hour Safeways in Kaanapali and Kihei-- also Foodland grocery stores. The Kahului WalMart is not a superstore. There's no reason to cart perishables across the valley in Maui's heat. (It's 20 mins. Kahului to Maalaea (coast to coast). Stop at the grocery store's customer service counter before you shop to pick up a 'savings card'.
51 helpful votes. 3. Re: Walmart near the airport. 10 years ago. Yes the Walmart has good prices on staples. Canned goods, condiments, baking mixes, you get the idea. You would need to get a Styrofoam cooler for any dairy, etc. No fresh meat, but hot dogs and bacon. Prices are good on sunblock and sundries.
10. Re: Grocery shop Walmart near airport or Safeway in west maui. Have stayed on Westaide for the last 4 years and always shopped at Safeway because it felt familiar - discovered Walmart to be much cheaper last year than Safeway in Lahaina - surprised to see a few hear not recommending it.
