If you then look at the UA site and check each of those earlier Expedia flights individually (i.e. SHV-IAH and IAH-VPS) both legs are available to book directly with UA. So the flights are in UA's schedule and open for booking, just not showing up as a single-booking connecting option when searching on UA.
