I always carry a spare lens case (with a small amount of fluid) in my eyeglass case which is normally in my personal item (a small backpack). TSA has never given it a second look. I also carry a larger container of rinse and that goes in the 3-1-1 bag. -JimG.

    Mine are soft contact lenses, and I have worn them and slept in them on long haul flights before. It is probably not the best thing to do as they do get dry, but I prefer them to wearing glasses which I also have tried before. However, using rewetting drops help to make the lenses pliable again.

    Yes, bacteria in tap water=eye infection. Bad idea. If you do not rinse them with solution, the same thing happens as if you put water in your eyes while wearing them and that means eyes are very dry and contacts stuck to eyeballs until you can get some rewetting drops in. Please do not try the water thing.

Your typical contact lens holder doesn't contain enough liquid to break the 3-1-1 rule. Bottles of contact lens solution could pose a problem if the amount contained exceeds the rule.
