17 helpful votes. Kansas City to Branson drive. 17 years ago. We will be staying with friends in Kansas City for a few days before driving on down to Branson. I've seen that people on this forum have said it's about a 3-3.5 hour drive. Mapquest is about the same. However, friends in KC claim that it's more like 5-6 hours, especially on weekends.

Unless there are places you are wanting to visit on the other route, I would take I70 to Russell, than take 281 to 4 to 14 to 96. Two lane roads in Kansas are pretty much wide, straight and have a 65 mph speed limit.

3. Re: Kansas City to Durango, or KC to Estes Park? 14 years ago. to clarify: Gold Creek Campground is near Gunnison (east end) and Black Canyon of the Gunnison also near to Gunnison (heading west), and Lake City further beyond there (about 45 minutes from Gunnison or thereabouts--SW).
