I frequently use Dollar and $350 is the credit card hold for deposit and is taken off my card within a few days of the return.

   Most of the other well-known brands (Avis, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty and Dollar) DO require a deposit over and above the cost of rental (anywhere from $200 to $350). It's good to know, especially in Vegas. For a week's stay, you can easily encounter up to $1000 in holds (with hotel and car rental deposits). Report inappropriate content.

The worst car rental experience ever encountered with a brand name rental car company, and I typically rent cars many times per year in many different countries. I rented a car at SJO airport requesting a one way drop to Liberia.
