The car rental prices at the airport are really expensive for the week we are there. However, it looks like I can get a car from the Budget or Avis downtown, on North I-35, then return to the airport before our flight for 1/3 of the cost. Answered: On June 20, 2018, I tried to use three $100 Avis rental certificates at Bergstrom Austin Airport when renting an Avis car. The Avis associate at the counter refused to accept the certificates, saying that he could not process them.
There aren't any car rental companiesat the South Terminal, so you'll need to take a shuttle to the main terminal. You can find one out front of the South Terminal, they run about every 15 minutes or so, but they do sometimes fill up, so you might not catch "the next one."
