The second rental is for 11 days in California with Hertz, booked via Costco's UK Travel site. I tried to decipher the small print - and failed miserably. I have copied and pasted below - apologies for the lengthy paragraphs. Any advice gratefully received. If renting in California:
One thing I do know, car owners (rental companies) are required to carry liability insurance. But the problem is California's legal minimum is something around $30k and is very insufficient (haven't been updated for half a century). An accident can easily result in liability anywhere from $100k to $500k.

Answered: Has anyone purchased the driver liability insurance through Costco / Bonita West and used it at one of the rental companies? Did they hassle you? Is it no problem?
