I ended up booking direct with Alamo car rental. I like Alamo because as a member of their free Insiders club I got a small discount (maybe 5%) off the price, but more importantly I can check in online and avoid the airport check in desk by simply going to the lot and picking out my car. So for me I don't see a great advantage to Priceline anymore.

You might be able to change your pick up time there. I did this last month to fill in all information needed in order to skip line at counter.
There was a report in The Washington Post about problems with customers returning cars after hours; in one instance, a customer returned an undamaged car after hours, but Alamo claimed that it had been rear-ended and demanded an additional $785. Answer 1 of 20: I hate to admit it but I have never used Priceline. Can someone tell me how it works? I know that you can name your own price (thank you Willam Shatner) and then you pay up front. What happens if your flight is delayed and you miss your pick up time...
A week before we travelled, the Alamo website had 'last minute deals' and the rental was $100 less - but we lost the free 2nd driver that comes with booking as a Costco member ($10 day) For the minivan we made a 'name your own price' offer on Priceline which was accepted by Alamo. 9 day rental was $200 less than other companies.
