Technology is such that direct links from rental companies are imbedded in OTA, airline & other rental booking channels so you don’t book a rental car when a location is closed.

This is exactly why I book direct with a pay when you get there rate. If I am late and they give away my car I lose nothing and can get online and book another car last minute.
