It was launched in 1996 as the first commercial web mapping service. [1] MapQuest vies for market share with competitors such as Apple Maps, Here and Google Maps.

Google Maps caps your number of destinations at 25. Routexl.com will let you add 250 stops (!!!) but you have to pay money to get access to more than . . . 25. Are there any *free* route-planning/driving directions sites that let you put in more than 25 stops? Thanks for any suggestions.
Mapquest used to be notorious for incorrect and bass-ackwards routes. I hear they improved, but I still don't use them. I also like using AAA/CAA. They have a new on-line Triptik service that is pretty good! You can also play around with it to insert multiple stops and compare routes, but after a while, my laptop can't handle it.
Google Maps is by far the best. It's easier to plan on Google Maps than with paper. Just find directions to all the places you want to see, then change around the order until you find the shortest route. Then check if there are other interesting cities along the way, or check TA or google (for example, google "things to see between Charleston ...

Therefore the drive time will vary based on time of day (i.e. commute traffic vs. off hours), any accidents, etc. We live close to Silicon Valley and no one uses MapQuest here anymore.
