There is a huge car rental shortage that will run over into the fall. Dependent on the location, some cars are going out at over $400 a DAY. DO NOT rent from Sixt.

My experience, and that of our adult children in the New York area, is that placing the EZ pass on the dashboard gets it read accurately.

Last week I rented a car from Budget Car Rental at Logan Airport, and they charge $3.95 per day for the e-Toll transponder, but, they have a maximum charge of $19.75 per rental month. So the most they can charge you is $19.75 for a single month.

   7 years ago. I also meant to add that the tolls themselves are cheaper when you use EZ Pass. For instance, the toll from Logan Airport to Newton is $1.50 with a Massachusetts EZ Pass, $1.75 with an EZ Pass issued by another state, and $2.05 if you have no transponder and are billed by mail.

What I don’t like about Hertz, they charge you each and every day of the rental, even if you never go through another toll. The max is $24 or so, but it’s just flat out wrong.

   I heard some jurisdictions charge a monthly rental fee for their EZ Passes. Virginia does not. If you buy a EZ Pass Flex in a Giant Supermarket in Virginia, you pay $35 and gets $15 credit instantly for use. You can then register it online and get the remaining $20 in credit. In essence, you get the EZ Pass for free.
