Joslins Department Store began as J. Joslins Dry Goods Store, founded by John Jay Joslin in 1873; it was a direct competitor to The Denver Dry Goods Company which commenced operations in 1888. The original Joslin Dry Goods Company Building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and is currently a Courtyard by Marriott property.
Daniels & Fisher Tower is a historic landmark, built in 1911 as part of the Daniels & Fisher department store. Unlike the less fortunate store, the D&F Tower was spared the wrecking ball. Paid tours of the clock tower are available, but require advance planning. Even without a tour, the tower is worth visiting.
What a treasure trove of history. This shop is interesting because of the great number of maps and the variety they have--world maps, state maps, continental maps, human population maps, historic maps, celestial maps, etc. their oldest dates back to the 1500s, and the man working there was incredibly knowledgeable.
