The mountains here are so much bigger here. I recommend you pick one area and stay. Learning the ins and outs of mountains takes time. I would pick epic or ikon and figure out which also works best for you back home and this trip. Epic is requiring reservations every day you ski this season. Ikon really hasnt announced yet.

Buying the day of will be in the neighborhood of $200 a day. You can buy epic day passes for a set number of days as you said. The best deal is the epic season pass for something like $900 for unlimited days. Depends how many days you plan to ride. The epic season passes come with some discounted buddy passes along with it.

An Epic pass is a product of the resort. It sounds like you think any store can sell them, and they cannot. So you have to get it at an official resort ticket window. I don't know what you mean about going to one of the peaks. You get it at the base ticket window.
Window price for lift tickets last season was $160. The IKON Pass is a $26 savings over online purchase (5 days @ $725). You also get friends and family benefits with the pass: 10 days at 25% off window rates.
