Looking for a 6 day rental at the end of Sept and the "retail" prices for a mid-SUV are in the $50+/day range. Which seem high to me.

   17 years ago. I just used Priceline to rent a car for my March trip. The prices on Expedia, Travelocity and the individual rental sites were running about $255 for seven days. I named my own price, and ended up with a rental for seven days for $150. IMO, there's no reason not to use Priceline for rental cars.
