I have AT&T with international roaming enabled, and my iphone used either carrier without problems. Of course, you incur international roaming rates when you use the phone, but I just had mine for emergencies.

Half of these happy little helpers have no clue where the US Virgin Islands are and the rep was probably looking at "Virgin Islands" as in British Virgin islands. Check the map online! Just turn off roaming to avoid picking up BVI cell phone towers nd incurring roaming charges or Int'l. Travel Pass kicking in (more of an issue on parts of St John, not as much on St Thomas ).

We have AT&T and we have an international plan that puts the price at something like $1 a minute. The service on the phone was LIME, but it worked seamlessly with AT&T.

I always use ATT when I travel internationally, it costs $10 a day for an international plan, it automatically turns on and off when you leave the country and when you return. Unlimited talk and data so if the wifi isn't good I use my phone as a hot spot and teether my laptop to the phone.
