Was able to use it at unmanned gas pumps by requesting a pin number by calling their 800 number before I left. Used it exclusively. No foreign exchange fees hit my account. We used our Capital One Visa Cards (Venture One) for tube and bus travel in London during our recent trip to London in April/May. Very easy. for 3 weeks (M-Sunday), our travel was in zone 1-2 and the cap of £34.10 applied. One account, two cards, each with a different number so no problem there.

Take your Capital One and use it for large purchases and those purchases for which you want the added protection that credit cards can offer. It's the best cc you can have in Ireland due to the fact that Cap One absorbs the 1% fee imposed by M/C and doesn't pass on any currency conversion charges to you. Cash Advance Fee = .03* 217.17 = $6.51 = $10 (since it is the larger of the two) Interest for 45 days = 45/365*.2324*217.17 = $6.22. Total fees = $16.22 or 7.5%. The only credit card I have found that makes sense for cash advances is my PenFed Cash Rewards card. It has no cash advance fee an a 9.99% interest rate.

6 years ago. If you go to a station during regular business hours, when there are people working there, you don't need a PIN to get gas. If you go at night or in a distant corner of Iceland like the Westfjords you will need a card with a PIN. We have a PIN on our credit card. It did not work at the pumps.

    4. Re: Capital One Venture Credit Card accepted? 5 years ago. WE use a similar Cap One card with almost no problem except that the new US chip feature is basically worthless there when purchasing things. Euro cards use a PIN number when the card is put into the machine (usually a hand held one).
