The potential issue with using Debit is that any pre-authorisation ("hold") placed on your card is held against your money, rendering it inaccesible for any other purpose until it's cleared/settled. So, if your rental total is $200 plus a $140 deposit= $340 debited from your card immediately and then the deposit refunded some days after you return the car. There are ways to get around it, but they need a credit card and will put a large hold on it, or need an equally large amount of cash as a deposit.
