2 years ago. Thanks for the info , folks. Something to add in to the recommendations for Cicar, etc for the travellers who prefer to use cash rather than cards when on hols. Last story I recall (from another TA forum) was of the company wanting a cash "security deposit" in excess of £1000, as well as whatever the payment was.
Car Rental - Cicar. Cicar is a brilliant car rental company located on all of the Canary Islands, which I have used on several occasions. They provide excellent cars, almost new in most cases with comprehensive insurance and no hidden charges with very competitive rates. They retain your details on file so a new booking is made very easy.
Cicar usually refund the fuel on the return of the car to them (in our case when we return it to their office at the airport - in your case when they collect from your hotel). 11 years ago. Booked a car at CICAR via a car rental site. Got confirmation mail stating one price. When at car pickup at office in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, the price is up 2 euros per day, with no explanation for that given when asked. They also added extra for 1/4 of a tank of petrol.
Having used Cicar for a number of years, because they are good, we were surprised when we picked up our rental on arrival at the airport to be charged 18 euros for the fuel to be told it would be refuned if we retrurned the car with the same amount of fuel. As we are not renting for our whole stay they are due to pick the car up from our hotel.
