    As I understand it there is a hotel tax (3%), TPS tax (5%) and TVQ tax (9.5%) added to the hotel charges. That is a significant increase in the cost of the hotel stay. I read somewhere that folks who are visiting Canada can get a refund/rebate for this hotel tax. But I also read that the refund/rebate was terminated in 2007.

Re: Quebec taxes. a lot of cities and towns have a room tax usually in the range of 1% to 3% - it usually shows on the hotels web sites that I have been researching but not on the aggregate sites like booking . com. There is an ongoing post in the Niagara Falls forum about a Destination Marketing Fee that is not a tax so should be optional.
