   I think Priceline has gotten away from their original sales model. They used to mainly offer blind bidding for potential steep discounts. When I looked at Priceline recently for a car rental their prices were comparable to booking through any other third party or booking direct and most of the listings named the rental car company.

However time pressures sometimes means it’s easier to see the sort of prices on offer on an aggregator site rather than traveling through each supplier individually. I’ve learned a lesson though.    I called Priceline and they admitted that the prepayment $261 is only for reservations fee not for car rental. The thrifty car rental said the prepayment not go to their pocket. So these scammers you speak about who charged you $128 extra, is the rental car agency if this was a pre-paid rental.
