1. Re: free transfer from subway to bus. Yes, the free transfer is within 2 hours, the card "remembers" it. On a regular bus you put the card in the fare reader and it will say "transfer" on the LED. On an SBS bus (like the 34th street bus) you put you card in the machine at the curb at the bus stop and get a paper ticket.
If the timing works it’s perfect to get a bus to the Kabukicho tower but they aren’t as regular as other routes nearby. We got the bus to the West exit Shinjuku station near the Keio department store( runs every 15 mins) and the best tip we got was to find the Subway tunnel just next to the Uniqlo store to head over to Hotel Groove.
