15 years ago. Beware "Pig In A Poke" bookings! I just got burned by Hotwire. I booked a hotel at LAX in order to get rest before an allnight trip. After booking I learned (as is their normal procedures) that I would be staying at the Holiday Inn LAX. That sounded fine to me until I called the hotel directly to make a routine inquirey.
Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency ( Ace ) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation ( 150 miles a day ) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further that 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile.
Hotwire sent me a $25 coupon yesterday to be used before midnight. I used it on an $85 Hot Rate hotel being fairly certain it was a Hampton that I had stayed at before. After tax and fees the Hotwire total was $103. The coupon required a minimum spend of $100. After applying the coupon code TOUCHDOWN the total became $78.

Last Tuesday I made reservations to rent a car through hotwire. The website asked if I wanted insurance. (It said it was recommended) I said yes. I downloaded the hotwire app, on my phone. They sent me the conformation number. Friday I went to pick up the car, at Alamo. The lady at the desk informed me that the insurance was through hotwire not ...
Like moreffmiles I started out on hotwire but now tend to use priceline more as there are only 2 of us. Both are reliable safe sites but there is an element of risk when you're paying for a hotel before you know what it is. For 3 adults hotwire is the best option. By choosing 4* or higher you significantly reduce the risk.
As my mother always said, you get what you pay for. I hope that my experience causes others to BE CAREFUL when booking through Hotwire for same-night reservations (or reservations within 48 hours of check-in, for that matter). Hotwire's customer service is pretty much non-existent, so don't expect much help from them regardless of the situation.
