Three helpful facts: 1) The longest spacing between avenues is 5th to 6th, so it might be a little longer than 1/7 mile. 2) 1st Avenue to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd is a little shorter than 1/7 mile. 3) When you run out of numbered streets, it's two miles from 1st St (or Houston St) to the southern tip.
