There's no payment, it is free as long as you're in the correct site. You shouldn't need a copy or even the QR as it's linked to your passport number. Personally I print it (bit of a dinosaur). There's a different application code on the return E-ticket, not one I recall being stuck in my face for noting when I did that 2nd stage of applying.
fwiw, we did get the QR codes a week before travel but they were never checked at any point. Not by the airline, not by anyone once we landed in Amman. With that said, it took less than 5 min to complete the information and get the QR code, so there's not much time savings by skipping this step. I would definitely just have it in case you need it.
