   I always have cash for things. Not just Amsterdam, but some places,not saying amsterdam, the public toilets has a fee, so i make a habit of haviing some cash. Same for street vendors, some wont take cards. but i use my card for most purchases as i can. Im not the type of card user to pay for a bottle of water or a cup of coffee using my card.

Taxis may but most do not take credit cards. You should also check with your bank as many banks are part of major banking systems so the ATM fees are not an issue.
