When I arrive at Avis, the person at the desk refused to charge me the balance of $146 based on my contract. He insisted to have two blank signed credit card slips with no figures as deposit. He said that was standard procedure in Costa Rica.

My receipt said I declined the $18.99 Additional Liability Insurance (ALI), and I purchased the $24.99 LDW insurance, which is actually what my credit card covers in Costa Rica.
