Hi @patrizio, I take Eliquis (apixaban) 5 mg every morning and evening for a DVT I had about 4 months ago. I usually drink a protein shake every day in the late morning. I wasn't aware of any problems drinking a protein shake if you are on apixaban. I did find some information on a pharmacist site on the topic.
In general the cardiologist’s decision regarding the maintaining of Eliquis is a conservative option and taking the history of the patient into consideration. Risk reward. Often there is no looking back after a stroke for a second chance. Please don’t assign side effect to this drug out of convenience. REPLY. 1 reply.
This works well in that the beta blocker prevents the accelerated heart rate during an attack and the propafenone gets me back in rhythm in 2-3 hours. My concern is cutting the eliquis dose in half. There is evidence in the literature that the half dose is as effective as the full dose in preventing afib strokes.

Hi @j68eis You were asking questions as to why you have low platelets with consideration of the Covid vaccine or taking Eliquis. Many outside factors, including meds, illness, vaccines, etc., can lower platelets or affect other blood numbers. You’d already relayed that your blood numbers seemed to fluctuate most of your life.
Perhaps your blood's clotting index is pivotal in your decision on whether to stop taking Eliquis. Your medical team is the best source of guidance on this. They can give you good advice on whether the Eliquis poses a risk of hemorrhage that may no longer be necessary after your ablation.
Hospitalist put me on Eliquis, 5mg 2X/day. Within a month my leg muscles were weakening to the point where I could no longer play Pickleball or walk golf. Within a few weeks my Cardiologist did an ablation and inserted a loop recorder. For the next 2-1/2 years the loop recorder saw MINIMAL Afib, under 0.5%; the ablation did its job.
I can get there using a combination of Turmeric and reduced dose of Warfarin that my health could improve immensely. Everything I read says don't mix the two but no one discusses how to do it safely. I read Sue's post with interest as I take turmeric as does a friend who also takes Eliquis.
