   I've looked into Hotwire and Priceline but have felt I've done better using discount codes to which I'm entitled and booking directly, or using Costco or USAA or AARP.    I think Priceline has gotten away from their original sales model. They used to mainly offer blind bidding for potential steep discounts. When I looked at Priceline recently for a car rental their prices were comparable to booking through any other third party or booking direct and most of the listings named the rental car company.

   Answer 1 of 10: I've never used priceline but have been reading alot about it on the boards. I currently have a pretty good price with Alamo ($19 per day) for mid size car for a 3 week trip in the fall. This is using my costco membership discount.

Both are no obligation bookings, so you can continue to look for a better rate, right up until your trip. I've booked, cancelled and booked again - 8 times before a trip.

   I called Priceline and they admitted that the prepayment $261 is only for reservations fee not for car rental. The thrifty car rental said the prepayment not go to their pocket.
